Hubbell Building Automation’s (HBA) suite of daylighting controls provides the ideal solution for indoor, outdoor, or skylight control of lighting circuits based on natural daylight.
Daylighting control systems consist of two basic types, dimmed and switched. Dimming control varies the light output over a wide range to provide the desired light level. Switching controls turn individual lamps off or on as required. In a conventional two-lamp fixture, there are three settings: both lamps off, one lamp on, both lamps on. The same strategy can be used with three- and four-lamp fixtures. Dimming systems require electronic dimmable ballasts and are more expensive than switching systems; however, they achieve the largest savings and do not have the abrupt changes in light level characteristic of switching systems.
Maximum energy savings can be achieved when both HBA’s daylighting controls and occupancy sensors control the lighting system.
